A man has been transported to hospital after he was apparently shot in New Westminster, police say.

Police responded to a 911 call about 6:30 p.m. Monday and found the man in the 1000 block of Cameron Street suffering from a presumed gunshot wound, said New Westminster police Sgt. Gary Weishaar.

Police did not specify if the man was found in a residence.

He was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital in serious condition, according to B.C. Ambulance.

Police had cornoned off a two-block area around the scene.
