Ogopogo to continue? (Photo Contributed.) staff

Will Ogogpogo continue on as Kelowna’s ambassador in  far flung towns and cities?

It’s what the community is being asked to mull over at an open house being held later this week.

Construction of a new parade float is planned for this summer, and as such the city is offering up the concepts for the design, with hopes that community members will weigh in.

Earlier in the month, city council was told that Ogopogo outlived its life, and for the cool cost  of  $50,000 on a new float would be built.

Tourism Kelowna had said the float wasn’t of  measurable value, but it is still moving ahead.

Sketches and concepts of the new design will be on display Thursday, April 15 at the downtown library, 1380 Ellis Street from 4 to 7 p.m.

City staff will be available at the open house to answer questions. Comment forms will be provided.

Some marketer needs money and convinces the City that our promotional identity needs “updating” and all of a sudden, you can’t distinguish Kelowna from the rest of the cities’ promotional campaigns.

When you see Ogopogo, you think Kelowna. I hope Council doesn’t abandon one of the last remaining original identities that separates us from every other city outside of the Valley?

Yes exactly. The new logo is boring and totally non-descript. The sails made sense. The rainbow circle doesn’t. Same for the Ogopogo.
