Two weeks after the completion of a significant facelift, a West Kelowna Subway shop is a wreck.

A Stolen one-tonne truck with trailer took out a sizeable piece of the sandwich shop, after it was crashed and abandoned by the thief.

West Kelowna RCMP attended the scene at 2:35 a.m. at the Subway Restaurant on Highway 97 at Gossett Road.

“It was determined that the driver of the one ton truck had fled, and so the Police Services Dog was called in,” said Const. Steve Holmes, in a press release.

“The Dog team followed a scent track to the Westbank Shopping Centre, where the trail ended.”

Investigation revealed that the truck and dump trailer had been stolen from Peachland earlier in the evening. The owners of the truck and trailer had no knowledge, however, of a Volvo skidsteer loader, that was sitting on the trailer when police attended the crash. It appears that the skidsteer was stolen after the truck and trailer were taken.

Police are attempting to determine who owns this piece of equipment and are asking for the owner to contact the West Kelowna RCMP with proper description and equipment identification. Anyone with information concerning the crash, or the identity of the thief, is asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 or Crime Stoppers.
