Two 17-year-old West Kelowna males escaped with non life threatening injuries after they collided with a van and went airborne off the road and into a ditch.
The collision occurred at 6:30 p.m. April 12th, on Highway 97 near Grizzly Rd. in West Kelowna. According to witnesses, a Nissan pickup was travelling northbound on Highway 97. As it approached Grizzly Road, a Ford Aerostar van proceeded westbound from Grizzly, across the highway and into the path of the pickup.
The driver of the pickup tried unsuccessfully to avoid the van, and the two vehicles collided, sending the pickup into the air and off road left into the west ditch of the southbound lane of Hwy 97.
The two occupants of the pickup were taken to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The pickup was destroyed. The 77-year-old male driver of the van was not injured and received a violation ticket for failing to yield after stop. His vehicle suffered major damage.
Neither speed, nor alcohol were considered factors in this incident.

I don’t know why some people don’t take an extra 2 minutes to go around to a stop light, instead of sitting a stop sign waiting for a break on a four lane highway. Risk takers or impatience calls for stupidity.
