Quick question—How much time did you spend planning your vacations last year, and how much did you spend planning your finances?
Most people spend more time planning one vacation than they do planning their entire financial lives.
Over the next two weeks we are going to give you a chance to change that AND have the always rare ‘free lunch’. More on this below.
Almost all clients we meet for the first time have no plan in place, even if they’ve been working with a licensed advisor.
For some reason, even though money, or lack of it, affects much of our lives, we do not like to spend time planning or thinking about it. I learned nothing about money in school, and from all accounts neither does anyone today.
I believe that money has power, but not direction. So, if we educate ourselves about money we can give the power of money in our lives a positive direction. But if we just leave our finances to circumstances or chance, then our finances start to exert power over our lives. And when that happens, things spin out of control. Just look at the world economy today. Two thousand years ago a writer said ‘the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil’.
So, what’s a person to do? Educate yourself. There are thousands of books on every money topic under the sun. There are courses and television programs, too. And now we’re giving you an opportunity and an incentive to educate yourself.
On Tuesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 22, we are offering a free lunch and two education sessions. April 20 you can learn how to make your mortgage tax deductible—you’ll pay your house off years sooner and save thousands in taxes. On April 22 we’ll be teaching people how to Build Layers of Retirement Income, to ensure they are financially secure in retirement. These sessions are in downtown Kelowna in our boardroom, and include a complimentary lunch.
On Monday, May 3, join me, and Manulife District Vice-President Cam Bayford for dessert and coffee at Moxie’s in Kelowna. Cam will be talking about some of the newest financial products that provide growth and retirement guarantees for Canadians to develop a personal pension.
All the sessions are free, but space is limited, so you just need to pre-register. Give me a call or drop me a line. More information on our website.
There, now you’ve got no excuse to get more informed about finances.
