Toronto FC signed defenders Adrian Cann and Maksim Usanov on Monday.
Cann, born 29 years ago in Thornhill, Ont., has spent the last two seasons in the Danish league with Esberg FB, making 14 appearances.
He was selected 16th overall in the MLS draft by the Colorado Rapids in 2004, but was released midway through the season. He then joined the USL's Montreal Impact and played 22 games in 2004-05 before moving to Vancouver for three seasons, where he played 58 games. He won the USL's outstanding defender award in 2007.
Cann made two appearances for Canada during the team's qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup.
“We're delighted to complete the signing of another Canadian international,” general manager Mo Johnston said in a statement. “Adrian will add to our backline with his height and his strength, so we're looking forward to seeing what he can do on the field for us.”
Usanov, 25, spent the last two seasons in his home country of Russia playing for FK Krasnodar.
“Max is another good young signing,” Johnston said. “For us at the back, he attacks well, defends well.”
