RCMP press release

The RCMP Federal Southeast District Drug Section(SEDD) and the Regina Integrated Drug Section have arrested a second man in connection to the previous 151 kilograms cocaine seizure of March 26th at Swift Current, Saskatchewan. A total of two males from the Vernon, BC area are facing drug related charges as a result of a lengthy drug trafficking investigation that stretched across, BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

As a result of cooperative efforts between the RCMP Federal Drug Section in the Southeast District, Calgary Drug Section, Regina Integrated Drug Section and Swift Current RCMP Traffic Services in Saskatchewan, two males have been arrested in connection to trafficking drugs.

On March 26, 23-year-old Troy Swanson was arrested by RCMP Swift Current Traffic Services where 151 kilograms of cocaine were seized in the trunk Mr. Swanson’s vehicle (click here to view the news release on this arrest). Mr. Swanson has since appeared in court and has been charged with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. His April 7th court appearance in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, has been adjourned until April 14, 2010.

On April 7, another 23-year-old male from Vernon, BC, Brock Ernest Palfrey was arrested in connection to this investigation without incident when seen exiting his residence Wednesday afternoon.

Simultaneous to the arrest, three search warrants were executed at three locations in the Vernon BC area. The searches resulted in the seizure of three firearms (long guns), a large amount of cash, hand-held electronic devices and computers.

23-year-old Brock Palfrey appeared before a Justice of Peace on April 7th and has been remanded into custody and was transported to Swift Current, Saskatchewan where he will remain in custody until his bail hearing.

“As exhibited by this case and other recent charges and seizures that we have seen throughout the province, we are having a high degree of success from the coordinated strategies and tactics that we have undertaken.

The RCMP along with other public safety agencies will continue our efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade and in making it as difficult as possible for the illicit drug trade and its organized crime groups to conduct business in BC, across Canada and internationally,” stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

“The RCMP Federal Southeast District Drug Section would like to thank the police services in Calgary and Saskatchewan for their assistance in the successful arrests of these two suspects. It was interesting to see how we picked up more resources as this case physically rolled across western Canada. All policing agencies were receptive and wanted to help out and participate,” added Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

Thank god they’re being charged in sask! Maybe they’ll actually get some sort of real sentence rather than house arrest or time served like our BC judicial system would hand out.
