Brittney Lee Irving was on the police radar even before her disappearance earlier this week
“She has had contact with police,” confirmed Kelowna RCMP spokesman Const. Steve Holmes. “I won’t get into details as to what the type of contact is, but I can tell you that she doesn’t have a criminal record.”
The 24-year-old was last seen around 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Day’s Inn on Harvey Avenue. She left a family member there bound for an unspecified address in Rutland.
Holmes confirmed that police have been told that Irving may have been wrapped up in the drug world.
“We were given information that… she had been involved in drugs. Now, information differs from evidence for us, because evidence is facts – verifiable facts,” he said.
“We’re obviously looking at that, but I can’t say definitively that (drugs are) connected to it.”
The Ford Explorer that Irving was driving was recovered around 7 p.m on Wednesday at a pull-out on Philpott Road just off Highway 33. Cops were tipped off to its location.
“We received information that it was there,” said Holmes. “I won’t go into it any further than that.”
He did say that the Explorer’s doors were locked, no keys were found, and there was “nothing inside to suggest any kind of foul play or struggle had taken place.”
That area has since been searched by a police dog and a helicopter, but to no avail.
The case is deemed suspicious and being investigated by West Kelowna RCMP’s General Investigation Section, which handles the rural areas around here, with help from their counterparts at Kelowna GIS.
“We’re not dealing with a chronic runaway here,” said Holmes. “What we’re finding gives us some level of suspicion.”

Reading the news and watching this unfold on local tv. This is really starting to sound a little like a RCMP sting gone wrong.
Here we have a 24 year old young lady, 5′6″ 125 lbs. who’s been in contact with the police, leaving a hotel room at 1:00 in the afternoon, by herself. carrying 200,000 dollars to go by 80lbs of dope. Why would anybody in there right mind let her do that? why would she do that? unless she thought her ass was coverd in case something went wrong. We need some answers here.
Who were the other men with her brother? Why did she go alone? Why were the police having contact with her?

Where did this idea of $200,000 and 80lbs of dope come from??? I have heard nothing of the sort thus far, only that she was involved in drugs

Her brother is the key here. It’s drugs that lead up to this. Someone knows something that’s for sure.If the police had contact with her previously they could have prevented this. Tragic.

Brittney had money, and she thought she was buying. Instead she got robbed, and who knows I think we all do what happened. Lets not be in denial here.

Drugs are related.
I’m a friend of her family’s .. drugs were majorly involved and she also had a serious drinking problem ..
Her brother has been caught telling lies.. as he is under a close eye by the police.
The address in rutland has turned out to be a grow op house..
Personally me and my close friends think it was a runaway , because she left her phone , and everything except the pot and money.. she wants to start a new life and get out of this one.. police found her phone in her car as ive heard..
