Kelowna RCMP press release
On April 7 at 10:15 a.m., a police officer responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver, who was passed out behind the wheel of a Ford pickup, on Graham Street near Clement Avenue.
When the officer arrived on scene, the fire department was making sure that the now-awake driver was alright.
Though the officer did not find any signs of alcohol impairment, he did find that the vehicle, which the 39-year-old male was driving, had been reported stolen from Mayer Road one hour earlier, and that the officer was on his way back to the detachment after responding to the theft report. Apparently, the truck had been stolen sometime overnight.
The suspect, David Colin Briggs, was arrested and appeared in court, on April 8 to face charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
Briggs plead guilty to the charge of possession of stolen property and was sentenced to a 30-month jail term.
Briggs is known to police and has a significant criminal code history.
