A female suffered non life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle, in the intersection of Rutland Rd. and Hwy 33.

The incident happened at around 3:45 p.m. today when some pedestrians were crossing Rutland Rd North, at a flashing Pedestrian crosswalk. Cars were stopped, as all but one of the pedestrians crossed. According to witnesses, it looked as if the last pedestrian crossed as a blue Dodge pickup started moving. The pedestrian stepped in front the moving pickup, which slammed on it’s brakes but still struck the 19 year old female, knocking her to the ground.

The young woman received non life threatening injuries and was taken to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment. The 21 year old driver was charged, under the Motor Vehicle Act, with Fail to Yield for a Pedestrian.

Both the driver and pedestrian are Kelowna residents.
