While many Kelowna residents were headed to Easter festivities this morning, local police were contending with a crash in Glenmore that may have been caused by drinking and driving.

At around 9:30 a.m. a collision occurred between two trucks at the intersection of Glenmore Road and Yates Road.

“A Chevrolet truck, northbound on Glenmore Road traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the back end of a Dodge RAM truck stopped at the red light for Yates Road,” said Staff Sgt. JT McLachlan, in a press release.

“The Chevrolet truck then proceeded through the intersection crossing Yates Road, striking the shopping plaza sign and coming to rest.”

The Chevrolet truck received extensive damage to the front end while the Dodge RAM received damage to the rear end. Several witnesses were already on scene once RCMP, Emergency Services and City of Kelowna By-laws department arrived.

The 27 year old man, driving the Chevrolet truck received some minor facial injuries with a possible broken nose. He was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment.

He is also being investigated for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Suffice it to say speed and alcohol were contributing factors to this crash.
