At 7:13 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Clifton Road North for reports of a fire spotted in the trees, high above that location.

Multiple 911 callers from the west side of Okanagan Lake as well as  the Clifton Road neighborhood reported a rapidly growing fire.

Fire crews responded with four fire apparatus, two command vehicles and 18 firefighters. RCMP also assisted in traffic control and patrols of the neighborhood, however no evacuations were necessary.

Once in the area,  crews determined  the fire was burning at a low to moderate intensity (rank 2-3) and was completely inaccessible by road. That resulted in a steep, long hike for firefighters, who had the fire under control very quickly, despite the steep terrain and lack of water.

A fire guard was placed around the fire and hotspots were extinguished. Fire crews remain on scene at this time. The fire is estimated to be ¼ hectare in size. The cause of the fire is undetermined and the investigation has been turned over to the RCMP.
