RCMP Press Relase
Police are looking to identify the driver of a cube van who was seen gesturing to children who were walking near a park in Rutland.

The incident happened today just after 8:00 a.m. A woman was walking her children to school along Hartman Road when she was approached by another woman who excitedly asked to use her cell phone.

The other woman said she had just seen a white cube van parked along Hartman Road, and watched as the male driver attempted to wave some children over. The woman found that suspicious began yelling at the driver, who then promptly drove away.

The witness noted that the man, who was alone in the one-ton Chevy van, had a black lab dog as well. The only description of the driver was that he was Caucasian, clean shaven, wearing a beanie-style hat.

A young female, who had been walking along and had heard the witness’s story, recounted a similar incident from two days prior.

She had been walking to school alone on March 30, just after 8 a.m. and in the same location, when the same white cube van approached her and the male driver waved for her to come to the van. She ignored his gestures and continued walking with the van following her. She then ran the rest of the way to school.

The incidents are deemed suspicious as it appears that no contact was made between the driver and children, and police are seeking to acquire more information as to the circumstances surrounding these incidents.

Kelowna RCMP Cst. Julie Rattee would like to speak with the woman who witnessed today’s incident. Please call 250-762-3300 to speak with her. Police would also like to hear if there any similar incidents involving this cube van. Please call the Kelowna Detachment, to report any incidents, and either the Kelowna Detachment or Crime Stoppers with any information relating to the identity and/or location of the van and the driver.
