The University of British Columbia Okanagan’s athletic department held their annual end of year all sports awards banquet Monday night in the UBC Okanagan Sun room.
All eight Heat varsity teams comprised of student-athletes and their coaching staff and the entire of the athletic department were on hand to celebrate the banner year that took place for the 2009-10 season.
Nate Speijer from the men’s volleyball program and Alex Basso from the women’s volleyball team were named the UBC Okanagan men’s and women’s student athlete of the year, the university’s most prestigious award for student athletes that demonstrate a high level of individual and team success, while demonstrating sportsmanship and leadership for their athletic program at UBC Okanagan.
Along with announcing the student athletes of the year the teams celebrated the numerous individual and team awards that were achieved over the most successful season in UBC Okanagan athletics history.
To help celebrate these great achievement’s the athletes were joined by number of distinguished guests representing our senior administration, our sponsors, our sports medicine group, the local media, parents, our adopt-an-athlete program, the UBC Okanagan Student’s Union and many of the UBC Okanagan departments.
