Right now: Suspect at large after till grabbed in robbery

Police have released a few more details about the theft that occurred Tuesday in which a lone male remove dhew cash register from a retail store in the 500 block of Lawrence Avenue shortly before the noon hour.

According to the Kelowna detachment’s media relation officer Steve Holmes, the suspect is described as being approximately five-foot, eight-inches in height, with a thin build. He was wearing a baseball cap and tan jacket at the time of the theft, and left on foot with the till, which contained more than $200 in cash.

While no weapon was seen or threatened, there were two witnesses to the alleged offense and police were able to recover the empty register from behind the Sprott-Shaw College building in the 500 block of Leon Avenue.

Holmes confirmed that a police dog unit was employed but the canine could not track a scent, possibly due to the heavy pedestrian traffic in the area at the time. He also said that a member of the downtown enforcement unit of the RCMP may have talke do the suspect shortly after the crime, but the individual was not detained as no description had yet been given.

The suspect remains at large.

Details are still sketchy but Kelowna RCMP were looking for a male suspect, described as being less than six feet tall and wearing a tan coloured jacket and hat who took a cash register containing money from a business located on Lawrence Avenue between Richter and Ellis Streets before noon on Tuesday.

A police dog unit was brought in to assist but the suspect had eluded police efforts and remains at large.

The cash register, emptied of everything but a few coins, was located a short distance away behind the Sprott-Shaw College building on Leon Avenue near Bertram St.
