The Kelowna Rockets are headed to the second round of the 2010 WHL playoffs after dumping the Everett Silvertips 2-1 in the seventh and deciding game Monday night.

Geordie Wudrick and captain Lucas Bloodoff scored for Kelowna, while Mark Guggenberger earned his third win of the series by turning aside 40 saves in a game that saw the Silvertips outshoot the Rockets 41-22.

Winning away from Prospera Place for the first time in the series, the Rockets opened the scoring when Wudrick found the back of the net 1:36 into the first period. The goal, scored on the power play, was Wudrick’s eighth of the postseason.

Everett responded in the second period when Chris Langkow tied the game with a power-marker of his own and if it wasn’t for Guggenberger, the ‘Tips could have easily taken the lead.

The Kelowna goalie was busy all night, but faced the most rubber in the second, when he stopped 17 of 18 shots. While Guggenberger held the fort at one end, Lucas Bloodoff put Kelowna up for good midway through the second.

The captain bagged his second of the series and the sixth seeded Rockets managed to hold on for the next 30 minutes to knock of the third seeded Silvertips. The 2-1 win gives the Rockets a 4-3 series win and a matchup with the Tri-City Americans in the second round of the playoffs.

But it doesn’t get any easier for the Rockets now as they face the top-seeded Tri-City Americans. The series opens in Kennewick, Washington Friday and Saturday.

The series then shifts to Kelowna for games three and four next Tuesday and Wednesday evening.
