The Westside Warriors will have a new look next year, all thanks to an unknown local designer.

After encouraging fans of the Warriors to submit third jersey designs for the 2010-11 season last week, owner Mark Cheyne said entries have been pouring in, and there are a number of interesting submissions.

“Some wild colours more than anything,” said Cheyne. “It has been good, the jersey ideas are very identifiable, I’ve seen some new touches to the logo.”

Cheyne said the idea to hold a contest to determine the new third jersey came from one of the organization’s weekly meetings and is designed to reach out to the community.

“We want to run this club like it is a community owned club. It’s not, but we want to run it that way,” said Cheyne. “We decided to try it out and we think people will have a lot of good ideas.”

Cheyne, who helped design last year’s third jersey, said he has a soft spot for vintage uniforms.

“I like the one we had last year. I like the old style, like the New York Rangers jerseys that are tie-ups.”

The winner of the contest will receive a third jersey at the Warriors season opener, while the organization has yet to decide when the team will unveil the jersey on the ice.

The Warriors will also sport a fourth jersey as the club has confirmed they will partner with the Canadian Cancer Society as they did last year. The Warriors helped raise $10,425 after auctioning off pink limited edition jerseys in late October.

The jersey contest closes on April 30 and the Warriors ask all participants to submit all entries by mail or by droping off submissions to their office at 2760 Cameron Road, Kelowna BC, V1Z 2T6, or  e-mail it to kpotter@westsidewarriors.ca.
