Feathered squatters have forced Hydro to plan a power outage for Thursday morning.

“Unfortunately Ospreys decided to nest on one of our poles,” said B.C. Hydro’s Gene Bryant. “So, we’ll have to de-energize that pole to take it down, then we’ll move it to another.”

The outage is scheduled for the wee hours of the morning — 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. — meaning few will be awake to witness the blackout, though they’d be wise to set an alarm not reliant on being plugged in.

Also, Bryant stressed it’s not going to be Kelownians who are impacted by the outage, as Fortis and the City of Kelowna are the power lords in these parts.

It’s those who dwell in the areas between West Kelowna to Summerland who will be in the dark Thursday morning.

The area impacted includes all roads on and off Highway 97 south of Gormans Mill and Glenrosa Road, through Peachland, all the way to the end of the line at Summerland.

This includes all of Fish Lake Road and associated roads off Fish Lake Road as well.
