Close to $40,000 in food donations and a further $3,700 in cash donations were dropped off at Prospera Place as admission to the Wings practices Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

All proceeds were delivered to the Kelowna Community Food Bank at a time when traditionally the food bank suffers from low stock on its shelves.

“We’re very proud of the way Kelowna responded to the Red Wings time here in Kelowna,” said Gavin Hamilton. “To be able to help the food bank out at this time is really special. We thank everyone who donated food or cash. The visit by Detroit was outstanding.”

The Rockets would also like to thank its partner RG Properties in assisting the Rockets in bringing the Red Wings to Kelowna. A special thanks also goes to the staff at Prospera Place and at SW Audio for making the Wings visit memorable.

“This was a team effort by everyone involved,” said Hamilton. “The Red Wings were very happy with their stay.”

Following its practice on Thursday the Red Wings flew to Edmonton for an NHL game on Friday night.
