Update: 1:50 p.m.

West Kelowna fire crews have been paged out to a second fire, this time at Rollingdale Winery on Hayman Dr.

It’s being called a rank one fire on the tree line. Ladder 31 and personnel from Engine 32 and have been called over from the Pettman Road fire.

Update: 1:24 p.m.

Assistant chief Kerry Klonteig told Kelowna.com that the fire is under control but not contained and 50 per cent guarded. It’s three-quarters of kilometre up the slope. He said the area is very dry for this time of year.

The cause of the fire is not confirmed but he said they were called to the area yesterday and he is bringing in an investigator. Forestry crews are more than an hour away.

“There’s a lot of wind up here,” says reporter John McDonald. “They brought foam and water onto it but they had to run the line 600 to 700 feet to get to the house and then another 300 feet to the hill.┬áThere is fuel all over the place.”

Update: 12:48 p.m.

Reporter John McDonald is on the scene at Pettman Road. He says the interface fire is being pushed by wind and is growing. Engines 31, 32 and 33 are on scene and they are using a line of fire retardant foam.

“It’s right behind a row of houses before the top of the mountain,” he says.

Details are still very sketchy at the moment as crews focus solely on the fire. The fire department has asked for a bush crew from the B.C. Forest Service. McDonald has also heard unconfirmed information that crews are having trouble getting water.
