The last semi-final of Stone Soup Chef is underway in the kitchen of Kelowna’s Gospel Mission. Chef Bernard Casavant from Manteo along with Chef Jesse Croy from Summerhill Winery are preparing a feast of soup – made from only ingredients found in our pantry.

It’s skill meeting imagination! Our judges today include Terry David Mulligan, Marshall Jones and Fred Sarkari, along with clients from Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.

Chef Bernard says the experience has been great. “This brings to light how many people come through this place every single day. I have to say, I drive by the Mission all the time, and never realized how big the operation is, and how much an anchor to the community it is.”

Gospel Mission Executive Director Randy Benson is beaming.

“This is one of the most exciting and innovative events we’ve ever done. It involves our staff, talented chefs, and our clients. It brings everybody together, to help raise awareness of the services we offer. And the soup has been awesome!

The gala fundraiser – to raise money for a new freezer and cooler – is this Saturday, March 20 at the Delta Grand. Tickets and info can be found online at
