EVENT LISTINGS:

Apr. 1 – 25

The Kelowna Actors Studio presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Sleet Street. A musical based on the book by Hugh Wheeler, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and based on a version by Christopher Bond.

In this unique musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler weave the infamous chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime.

This is the shocking 19th century tale of an unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers and before long the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!

Sophisticated, macabre, visceral, and uncompromising, Sweeney Todd nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with hilarious moments of dark humor.
