A 19-year-old man learned that brandishing a knife on a city bus is a sure-fire way to frighten commuters and attract police attention.

Close to midnight Friday, police were called to the Orchard Park Bus Stop to deal with a weapons complaint. They were told a  passenger had pulled out a large knife he used to make threatening gestures to a group outside.

“His actions were seen by several witnesses on the bus, who called police,” said Const. Steve Holmes, stressing passengers were not the focus of his threats.

While the man had been kicked off the bus with little ado in the time between his outburst and the call being made to police, he was found and apprehended near Springfield and Cooper roads.

A quick search yielded the knife and a little more digging led  RCMP to the discovery that the man was on probation, and not to be in possession of weapons which included knives.

“The suspect was arrested and will face breach of conditions charges,” said Holmes.
