Mayor Sharon Shepherd of the City of Kelowna, representing the Board of the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust (SIDIT), will officiate at a ceremony Thursday to hand over a grant to the Okanagan Research & Innovation Centre (ORIC) for the Phase 2 expansion of ORIC’s business incubator facility in Kelowna.
The function will take place on Thursday, Feb. 25.
SIDIT’s financial support is being used to increase the size of ORIC’s current facility in order to deliver an enhanced range of on-site services; as well as to leverage the success of the current incubation program in delivering value to start-up companies across the Okanagan.
The successes in the first six months of the ORIC Kelowna Innovation Centre in delivering support services to start-up and early-stage technology companies has resulted in the organization outgrowing its premises, and the SIDIT funds are being used specifically to support the expansion of both facilities and services to job-creating, fast-growth companies who would otherwise not be supported.
SIDIT’s investment will enable a 5,600 sf expansion of the ORIC Kelowna Innovation Centre.
