Celebrity Sizzle by Mark Stone

A solid debut for Ellen on Idol last night (photo contributed)

Last night on Idol, Ellen DeGeneres made her judging debut, and all things considered I think she did a pretty respectable job. I was concerned she would bring things around to herself and her comedy but that wasn’t the case. Anyone hoping she would become the “nice” judge would have been disappointed. Ellen spoke her mind and wasn’t afraid to be mean if she had to.

TV critics seem to agree that Ellen’s induction last night was pretty solid. I was fully expecting to dislike her presence but I ended up enjoying her on the panel. But as much as it pains me to say this, I miss Paula. Her assessments of the contestants’ performances never really counted, though that wasn’t what we watch her for. We loved her incoherent rants and the utter unpredictability of her behaviour.

The one thing about Ellen that may turn into a problem is that, to the media, she’s coming across as if she runs the show. She aired out her issues with Simon’s tardiness a few weeks ago and just recently she’s speaking her mind about her uncomfortability with Howard Stern as a possible replacement for Mr. Cowell. So first she doesn’t like Simon then she’s saying she doesn’t want any part of Howard? Maybe I’m making too much of this but she’s only been judging for one week.

As for the possibility of Howard Stern coming on board, several sources today from the Idol camp are saying “no way.” Still, I think it’s a possibility, albeit a slight one.

In other Idol news, if you watched last night, you would have seen what very well could have been the best Hollywood round audition in the show’s history. Contestant Andrew Garcia stepped to the stage with his guitar and belted out an amazing rendition of Paula Abdul’s Straight Up. It blew everyone away, and I think people will be talking about this one all season. Check it out.

Spoiler: Andrew Garcia makes the Top 24.

Channing Tatum strips for Ellen

On today’s Ellen show (in case you forgot she still had her own talk show), Dear John Star Channing Tatum shows up and does a bit of a strip show for her.

“I was a stripper,” he says. “Look, I’m not proud of it, but I’m not ashamed of it.”

If you’re not proud of something, doesn’t that mean you’re slightly ashamed? Is there a middle ground between proud and shame? Hmmm…

Anyway, isn’t stripping for Ellen like dangling a Snickers bar in front of a kid with nut allergies? Just saying.

Us Weekly trying to stir up Bachelor controversy

Are you watching The Bachelor this season? Aside from the first two episodes, this go-around with Jake has been nothing but weak. The show is trying to wring out as much drama as possible because they know that Jake wasn’t the right choice, and they’ve got to make up for it. Monday night’s handling of Ali’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” bit seemed to drag on and on. Not cool.

Now Us Weekly is getting into the act by attempting to drum up controversy with final three candidate Tenley. The magazine reports that, horror of horrors, she withheld sex from her ex husband and only gave it to him once a week!

“She’d only allow sex once a week…and sometimes she withheld it,” says Christina Latham, who is now engaged to the ex and denies that he ever cheated on Tenley.

Are the Bachelor producers behind this? I think they’re at the point they’ll do anything to keep people interested in this season’s borefest.

If you want to know how it all ends up, feel free to email me (I won’t spoil it all here).

John Mayer speaks out about his sexual relationship with Jessica Simpson

In today’s TMI file, we have another report from Us Weekly about the sex life between John Mayer and Jessica Simpson. Ready for this?

Speaking about Jessica, Mayer says, “Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me. Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f**kin’ snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f*ck you, I would start selling all my sh*t just to keep fu**ing you.’”

Wow. Jess must have some mad bedroom skillz. Usually this kind of thing should be kept private, but I’m thinking that John Mayer could have been more specific here. It’s only fair; we know everything about Tiger Woods, why not Jessica Simpson just to even it up for the men out there.

Lindsay Lohan poses as Jesus Christ for French magazine

What’s Lindsay Lohan gone and done now? In what I could only assume is a ploy to get cast in a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, Lindsay can be seen posing as Jesus Christ for French magazine Purple.

Lohan can also be seen posing nude in New York magazine, you know, just in case the Jesus thing doesn’t work out.

Heidi Montag caves in, will now do steamier Playboy photo spread

Now that her CD, which she apparently threw all her money into, has failed epically, Heidi Montag has changed her mind about nudity. A recent report has the Hills star seriously considering doing a steamier photoshoot for Playboy magazine.

“She is currently speaking with (Playboy photographer) Matthew Rolston (about) a steamy, soapy, shower concept showing her boobs through the shower door,” said the source. “The figure being discussed for the exclusive is in the seven figures.”

“She could use the money, and she’s finally ready to pose topless, so she is negotiating with the magazine,” according to one of Montag’s friends, who spoke to In Touch Weekly.

What happened to those Christian values that prevented her from going all the way nude the first time? Oh yeah, money. Always wins out.

New David Lynch film, right here: When David Lynch meets George Lucas

Found this on Roger Ebert’s blog today: a new film from David Lynch about his meeting with George Lucas. Funny stuff, and you don’t even need to be a Lynch fan to enjoy it.
