Yet another pedestrian in dark clothing had a close call with a moving vehicle, the seventh such incident police have reported in the past month.

An 18-year-old West Kelowna man was struck by a pickup truck around 11 p.m. on Tuesday as he crossed Lower Glenrosa Road near Glenway Road. The victim suffered minor injuries to his mouth and arms and was sent to hospital for treatment, according to an RCMP press release.

The truck that hit him was apparently obscured by another pickup that had just passed by going in the opposite direction. The 18-year-old was “grazed” by the truck’s front fender, and was also hit by the side mirror, which left him reeling.

An investigation revealed that alcohol was not involved and no charges have been laid.

Cops have again reminded people to wear bright or reflective clothing at night and use extreme caution when crossing roads.

These types of accidents are so devastating. We should also be reminded of the old adage “walk on the left, facing traffic.” It appears some of these collisions could have been avoided if the pedestrian had seen that the on-coming vehicle had not noticed them and was able to react.
