An Ontario man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for an alleged sex assault was picked up last week at a homeless shelter in downtown Kelowna, the local RCMP said in a press release.

The Kingston Police Service told counterparts here they suspected 36-year-old Alexander McKay was in town, and asked the Mounties for help.

Cops picked him up Feb. 4 at an unidentified shelter where he had been staying. McKay, considered violent by police, was arrested without incident and returned to Ontario.

He is also charged with sexual interference and breach of probation.
