Two RCMP officers have been charged with assault causing bodily harm stemming from an incident last summer when the off-duty cops allegedly picked a fight with an unknown man wearing Hells Angels colours.
The incident occurred Aug. 7, 2009, outside an unidentified Kelowna bar after one of the officers “shoulder bumped” the victim inside the club. That likely precipitated a larger brawl outside on the street, according to RCMP E Division spokeswoman Cpl. Annie Linteau.
Charged are 40-year-old Const. Chris MacDonald from Prince Edward Island and 25-year-old Const. Kiel Samotej of Alberta. Although still on duty at their respective detachments, they are each facing an internal investigation. They are set to appear in Kelowna court April 22, 2010.
Conversely, Kelowna man Errol Milson-Gardener, 25, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm for his alleged attack on MacDonald, who spent a night in hospital due to injuries sustained in the fracas. Milson-Gardener is due in court April 8.
Linteau said the melee involved the officers’ group of seven friends and 15 to 20 bikers wearing Hells Angels and Throttle Lockers colours.
While the Hells Angles have a chapter in Kelowna, Linteau was uncertain where the Throttle Rockers are based.
“I don’t believe that the Throttle Lockers are usually in Kelowna, but I’m not an expert in these types of gangs,” she said.
Police notified the public in early July that the local chapter of the Hells Angels was set to host a rally here, but cops said afterwards that it was a quiet weekend.

Bunch of losers in the RCMP. We have one member who recently committed murder in Ottawa and now this. I’ve seen security officers act more professional then the police.

What is wrong with the Crown Prosecutors in BC? A bunch of Hell’s ANGELS fight with off duty RCMP officers and the officers are charged. Hells ANGELS kill people, they blew up bombs in the streets of Montreal and killed children ( trying to eliminate their rivals). No where else in Canada would Crown Prosecutors be crazy enough to take the side of the Hells Angels over the RCMP officers. Hells Angels have been basically removed from Quebec but, I sure they now love BC where they can traffic in drugs and kill people and in the end, have the Crown take their side. Are you all nuts out their.

Well if u knew the facts you would know that the two DRUNK off duty RCMP officers and their friends started a fight with some local bikers inside a bar that ended up out on the street. You probably shouldnt walk up to a hells angel in a bar and intentionally ’shoulder check’ him and mouth him off unless you are asking to get your ass beaten… It was very obvious they were looking to fight. even when the police showed up, they told the off duty drunkards to go home or they were going to get arrested. Cops can be idiots too, they arnt special. Im just glad our local RCMP is smarter than all the idiot vacationing hot heads we get in this town.
