The good ole boys of Kelowna are getting set to party this afternoon during the broadcast of the Superbowl XLIV.

This year’s final features the New Orlean Saints against the Indianapolis Colts in playing in MIami. Game time is 3 p.m.

Local sports bars are gearing up for one of their best days of the year.

At Dakodas on Harvey, $15 tickets are still available for the Superbowl party starting at 2:30 p.m.

“We’re giving away a ton of prizes, a couple of beer fridges, a whole bunch of other stuff,” says Kelly Chmiler.

This will be one of the bar’s biggest sports days, outstripping the CFL’s Grey Cup final. “We do better on the Superbowl,” she says.

Over at Dave’s Sports Bar in Rutland, it’s the other way around. “There’s no comparison. Grey Cup is busier for us,” said Jeremy, the bar manager. “But we’re a Rider Bar, so that’s why.”

Dave’s is holding a tailgate party, complete with a truck box hauled into the middle of the bar.

“We’re giving away a beer fridge and whole truck load of prize,” he said. “There’s no cover, everyone who shows up gets a ticket. Everything is in hi-def, we have 20 big screens, so let’s have a party.”

Thirsty Superbowl fans can also check out the Blue Line Sports Bar in the Capri Hotel and Boomers in the Capital News Centre.
