Okanagan television will not be home to the controversial anti abortion ads that gained nationwide attention.
Representatives from Kelowna Right to Life received word from CHBC about an hour ago that they would pull the ad, after a few days of intense public scrutiny.
“The overarching reason is because the image is inappropriate for TV and is too graphic in nature,” said the organization’s Marlon Bertram, adding he was still processing the news.
“One of the fundamental purposes of media is to identify truth and show truth…. When they fail to do that they are compromising their own purpose and their fundamental reason for being.”
CHBC will still run other ads for Right to Life, though they will be less graphic than the ones that have prompted those of both pro-life and pro-choice camps to flood the organization’s email inbox with commentary.
“Most emails were overwhelmingly in favour of showing the ad,” said Bertram of Kelowna Right to Life. “We received a number of comments saying (the ad) was not graphic, it was well done and even beautiful.”
Though the commercial offers disturbing imagery, Bertram said it was done in a tasteful manner that presents sympathy for the victims of abortion.
“Sometimes injustices can be presented in a way that they appeal to our humanity, in a way that can be described as beautiful,” said Bertram, adding he wasn’t surprised that what some found beautiful, others found excessive.
“I know when these images are shown they recognize this is a horrific act they are looking at and that can be difficult.”
The ads were designed by a group called New York Priests for Life, and it was modified for the Okanagan market.
CHBC was contacted, and a representative said the station would release information on the matter later this week.

I just read Kathy’s news item about the Kelowna Right to Life adwhich was denied showing by CHBC despite its contract to have the video ad aired.
At least Kathy could have shown the graphic of the actual ad in question. Her news item with a totally different picture attached to it is grossly misleading. Clean up the news to make it honest true and accurate. Do we have to conclude that all news media are as bad as CHBC??

Good for CHBC who I had lost all faith in when they decided to air this disgusting commercial. If the pro choice want it to be fair then they should also show the other side with the graphic photos of all the murdered doctors that have been assasinated by pro life fanatics.

It obviously has nothing to do with being too graphic but with people at CHBC without backbone, courageous enough to stand up to the pro-abortion bullies who just cannot abide to hear or see the truth. The TV station did the right thing here. This organization
is playing of hysteria and sensationalism. They are becoming if not already more and more of a fringe group,
like PETA. The law has already spoken on this issue.
Yes they have the right to do protest and that is the right
all our citizens have, except if you are in Vancouver but

The answer to the CHBC pulling this ad is to start watching alternative news, not the so called “main stream media.”
The pro-abortion minority are afraid of the truth, evidenced by the fact that they will not debate. Pro-lifers didn’t lose the debate, there never was a debate.
If we don’t see killing preborn babies for the horror that it is, we will only think of it as a procedure. For the most part, abortion has been “out of sight, out of mind.” This ad needs to be seen by the public.
Those that think killing preborn babies is nothing more than a woman’s choice, should then logically support the “choice” of others to kill abortion doctors. It’s long past the time for those pushing abortion to stop their willful ignorance.
After all, a person’s a person no matter how small.

I don’t think so, Fred. We can put up a screen that says it is hysterical, sensationalist and unproductive and that the law has already spoken, but we can only hide behind that so long.
The law also spoke once that blacks were lesser beings but that law changed.
What I am seeing here is a simple matter of life and death with some people having the determined courage to stand up and speak out.
History will tell in due time if this is the beginning of a sea-change, the seeds of a deep heart revolution.
Polls are showing that young people are very opposed to abortion. The sea-change may well have already begun.

I guess it was too much to interview CHBC – so you got “the truth” stright from the horses mouth – the same horse that Hi-Jacked AM1150 this week with “overwhelming support”.
Maybe we can show some graphic ads of clotheshanger back alley abortions as well – after all – if the Kelowna Right to Life group got their way – we would have pregnant mothers chained to hosptial beds, suidial-rather than tell mom and dad their pregnant teens, and more prom-night-dumpster-baby news stories to show on the news.
After all the news has to be fair and show the truth.

The ad is not “graphic” let it run! Much, much worse is shown on TV every single day and nobody seems to care much.
The only reason the pro aborts jump up and down is because the ad makes them come face to face with an injustice that they are permitting to occur.
When they see pictures of holocaust victims, they can point the finger at someone else and say, “look, how awful those people are for allowing injustice.”
When the see picture of abortion victims, now they have turn that finger toward themselves. Not so easy to do, is it?

On another note why would this surprise us… CHBC top news story is about a local man who is cashing in on Tiger Woods “Transgressions” CHBC is nothing more than TV gossip show…Why would they air anything that would actually elicit change in our country, They are sick an irresponsible no wonder the threat of their doors shutting is looming around the corner..Sounds like they need to restructure and become a gossip channel/show or actually report news, which they are clearly veering from.

It seems that CHBC is in a no win situation here. Pro Lifers are upset that the ad is pulled and not promoting their message. If CHBC keeps runnign the ad, Pro Choicers accuse them of bending to the whims of a specific fringe group. Because of the polarization of this issue, CHBC has no middle ground and is the bad guy either way.

For all of you that assume CHBC should be airing this “ad”…
How would you feel if you were savagely beaten and raped and were forced to carry the child of the monster who did that to you or have to risk your life and pride again in order to obtain an illegal abortion?
How do you think it feels for women who were placed in that position, who had an abortion as a last resort because some psychopath was “in the mood”, to view ads like this? To re-live the pain, the degradation and the psychological trauma that was inflicted on them.
Give your heads a shake. How about CHBC airs a commercial showing a violent rape as a preface to this ad? You can sit and watch that too- listen to the screaming and then tell women that they should keep that child in the name of “God”. I seriously doubt all of you would be rallying to have that commercial aired.

I’m just going to go out on a limb (pun intended) and say that regardless of which side of this debate you fall on, does it not seem wrong for someone who considers an aborted (unborn) child to be a life worth preserving, that they should remove it’s arm and use it in a demonstration? What ever happened to respect for the dead?
I am all for freedom of speech and believe that the cause should absolutely be allowed to protest and speak their opinions but this is morbid and if it is actually what they claim then the desecration of human remains to prove a point is an aweful low to stoop to.
I do not agree that the ad is graphic (as i stated, morbid is a more accurate word) but for all those stating that everyday television is more graphic (or morbid) keep in mind 2 things:
(1) At the outset of every such program, and after each intermission, viewers are presented a warning stating the graphic nature of the program.
(2) T.V. violence and graphic content are well known to the public to be fiction. This fact in itself creates a distinct difference between this ad and other television programming.

I heard on CBC Daybreak that CHBC was willing to air the ad because they needed the advertising dollars. But now a few proabort viewers cry “no fair” and now CHBC fold under pressure.
1) Where is your integrity, CHBC?
2) The ad is horrendous because abortion is horrendous. Surprized? Anything new here? The reaction of proaborts is totaly predictable.
3) Solution: Step up, CHBC. Let’s have a look at the ad say for one month. Then at least we can all say we tried.

I’m confused….When someone wishes to have a baby they will go to any end ..financial or other wise to conceive a precious being. Then the care provided both pre and post natal is turly something to see. Everyone sides with them and cheers them on.
On the other hand if this same fetus is seen as unwanted or a burden they are advised to dismantle this ” useless tissue” and get on with their lives. Are they not all fetuses that will or could become potential children? Someone said no families to adopt but this is incorrect.
Only someone with no conscience can make themselves believe that the destructions in preborn babies is an OK thing to do and many suffer the after effects in later years especially if no further children are concieved when THEY desire. Seriouly think about these actions with an open mind prior to going ahead.
Please show the ad so everyone can make a wise decision with no regrets ( even in rape cases)

Abortion is so sad. The saddest story I have heard, is when a doctor was performing an abortion, by Cesarean section, and the infants’ little finger grabbed hold of the doctor. It was the last abortion he ever performed. These children being aborted are alive.

How can the image of the 2 hands be viewed as “graphic” and offensive? Does it only become offensive when the smaller hand is identified as that of an unborn baby, severed as the result of an abortion?
How ironic that the conscious is nudged when the truth is exposed: this is a human being. A fetus is human, not vegetarian, not a fish. These are human. The truth hurts for those who rationalize and justify killing unborn babies!

Why does CHBC enflame this debate by displaying photos beside the article, that are unrelated to the ad referred to? Is CHBC itself supporting a pro abortion sentiment, attempting to gain support for it’s decision to cancel the contract?

Too bad the abortionists and their co-horts at the K.G.H. won’t let the Kelowna public community actually see their abortion procedures being performed at the hospital. Wouldn’t it be a great idea to have the CHBC camera film crew team up with the Shaw Cable film crew to produce their own Kelowna ad direct from the abortion procedure room at K.G.H.! The ad could be called something like: Interior Death – Abortion-style! Or even CSI-Kelowna! However, something like this would probably be bad for the abortion business. God loves the abortionists but not the taking of life of unborn children. The weekly prayer vigil outside of K.G.H. is an act of God’s love for the mother and the unborn child being denied the right to live. Lights, camera, action! Maybe someday the Kelowna public community will see the reality of the abortion procedures being performed at the K.G.H.

if I knew the real truth many years ago and not been blinded by selfishness society making a career and life for myself I would NEVER aborted. I know that is true for myself and many many friends. That was over 20 years ago.
The truth needs to shine about those babies being a person no matter how small.
People need to rise up and adopt..and less red tape for adoptions. It is wonderful to see so many more teens deciding to keep those precious babies cary to full term.

I don’t understand- Why am I still reading news articles about young teens who have murdered their newly born children when abortion was supposed to have been the solution to this problem? Could it be that abortion is not the solution that it has been touted to be?
Why are so many of the young women that I have met who were date raped keeping their children and raising them? Could it be that rape has nothing to do with how they feel about their children?
Why is it so long and extremely hard to adopt (red tape, lenghty waiting periods, no children available, age restrictions etc. etc.) when there are children shunted to foster homes instead of permanent homes? Why do people have to adopt from other countries when supposedly there are so many children up for adoption here?
I am grateful for the life of my beautiful, priceless Korean daughter that we adopted from Korea through the Canadian government. Thank heavens her mother did not abort. She is now grown and an amazing young woman.
And yes. People are willing to adopt even handicapped, mentally challenged, Down’s syndrome etc. children. My cousin adopted three. I have a friend who fosters and adopts all kinds of fetal alcohol, handicapped children…..mmmmm a lot of things to think about, don’t you think?

I find it interesting that whenever a message show truth, that those who don’t like it decide to destroy the messangers of the truth by trying to destroy their credibility. Take for instance the headline of this story where “anti-abortion” is used instead of “pro-life”. The media use this tag all the time to label pro-lifers in a negative way. You never see the term “anti-life”, you always see “pro-choice”, so that abortionists come across in a positive manner.
This ad is not graphic in any way compared to what I see on TV every day. What it does do is show people the reality of how horrible it is to destoy a human life, and those who are anti-life don’t want to face it.
Slavery was accepted for a long time, and a small group of people(mostly Christians) in England opposed it and finally after many years it was abolished for the evil it was. I hope to see the day when society will also recognize abortion for the evil it is and also abolish it.

It’s a hand? How can that be? What do people really think make up the “products” of abortion?? Show the head that belongs with the hand – Now that would get everyone’s attention. But of course there is no head because there was no baby, I mean fetus, I mean product of conception. Pro-choice seems to mean pro ignorance as well – i.e. ignore science, ignore what all know to be the truth – when you get pregnant it’s not with a puuppy or an elephant or a burger, it’s a baby people, a tiny little you or me with a detectable heart beat at 3 weeks.
