In B.C. Major Midget League action, the Okanagan Rockets took three out of four points during a weekend doubleheader against the Fraser Valley Bruins. In the series opener on Saturday, the Rockets dominated the early going, scoring three times in a two minute span to grab a three-goal lead.

The Bruins hung on, though, and clawed their way back into the game, which ended with the score tied at five apiece.

Tanner Burns snapped a scoring slump, registering a hat trick, while Kyle Clerke and Justin Hickman scored singles. Zac McPhee had three assists, Brett Mulcahy had two and Turner Lawson, Max Mowat and Travis Blanleil had one each.

On Sunday, it seemed the Rockets had learned a lesson. After a scoreless first period, the Rockets put up five unanswered goals on their way to a 5-0 victory. Darren Hogg earned the shutout, and scoring was distributed throughout the lineup with nine players registering points. Burns and Clerke both scored for the second game in a row, and Colton Malmsten, Blanleil and Mulcahy added to the team’s total.

Now halfway through the regular season, the Rockets find themselves in third place in the BCMML standings, one point behind the Vancouver Giants and two points behind the first-place Cariboo Cougars.

The Rockets next see action when they travel to Surrey next Saturday to take on the eighth-place Valley West Hawks.
