With Christmas at our doorstep theĀ Winter Cache craft and art sale at the Streaming Cafe was standing room only.
About two dozen talented local business women brought their unique ideas to the table in this cozy setting on Leon Ave Saturday.
Shauna Oddleifson, one of the organizers of the Winter Cache Fair sits behind her booth of hand made colorful items and smiles when asked about her involvement in the fair which runs again Sunday starting at 10:00am.
“We have been involved in the craft sales for about 8 years, a bunch of local gals getting together with handmade local stuff. We hand picked people who made really unique things that you don’t see at stores,” Oddleifson told Kelowna.com.
“Everything here is original and hand made by local people with local materials when available. I think it is really important to the support local artists and business people, everybody here is trying to to make a go of getting their stuff out there and it’s affordable,” she added.
Kelly McKenzie of Teal and Gold -who makes handcrafted woodwork and custom furniture pieces was one of the handpicked businesses and made the wall and furniture at the Streaming Cafe- summed up the sale’s importance.
“It’s about keeping the economy local and keeping Christmas hand crafted. Keeping things in the community and getting to know other artists is important,” McKenzie said.
Iris Taborsky-Tasa of HAIIKU was another women at the fair showing off her self designed and hand-made clothing line.
“I’ve been do this four five years, I use mostly natural fabrics and I do all the sewing myself. I am inspired by vintage but I really love the modern design aesthetics,” she said.
The Winter Cache sale is on today until 3:00 and again tomorrow from 10:00 until 3:00. Tell them Kelowna.com sent you.
