Game Recap:
After a dominating win on Friday night the UBC Okanagan Heat women came out slow and indecisive against a Douglas team that would like nothing more than hand the Heat their first league loss.
The Heat were only able to score 11 points in the first quarter after scoring 75 in their game the previous night. UBC Okanagan played sloppy basketball by turning the ball over 15 times in the first half but still managed to carry a lead against the Royals 27-19.
After the break the Heat stepped up the intensity on defence by pressing the Royals full court and only allowing Douglas College one field goal in the third quarter. Offensive the Royals had no answer for fifth year post Meghan McGill as the Kamloops product dominated the paint scoring the majority of her 17 points in the third frame. The Heat were able to extend their lead to 36 points closing out the quarter with a 57-21 advantage.
“With Douglas being a less experienced team it allowed us to go deep into our bench while maintaining consistent play in the second half,” said assistant Heat coach Kim Whelpton.
