Re: Killing Is Never Honourable, letter to the editor, Nov. 19.
Is Ron Banerjee, director of Canadian Hindu Advocacy, deliberately dishonest or in blissful ignorance? Although child marriage may have been outlawed in India, young girls are still promised in marriage at an early age and may have to go to the family of their betrothed before puberty. There, in joint family situations, they are slaves to the mother-in-law. They are separated from their own families, with the possible exception of the birth of a first child. Banned over 60 years ago, dowry is still a huge issue and numerous brides have met untimely deaths when it has been deemed inadequate
What of suttee (self-immolation of Hindu widows), also banned but still encouraged in some areas? Knowing the fate of a young widow, outcast and doomed to grinding poverty, perhaps this is a desirable alternative.
In most Indian families, sons are favoured and over-indulged, while daughters perform household labour. Girls are less valued, perhaps in part due to the need for dowry.
Doubtless the fate of India's girls is improving, but old customs die hard, particularly in rural areas.

We are living now, perhaps in the most advanced stage of
science and culture, however, man-made religious instigated
tradition are still intact. Why can’t we open our eyes
and see the drawbacks of these old traditions, which was
enslaving humamity and destroying their peace of life.
When a young girl is under the authority of some strange
people, it can lead to suicide for many young girls.
Mother-in-laws are notorious for daughter-in-law
persecutions.

Ron Banerjee has no clue what is happenning in India . I request Ron Bennerjee to go through the Indian nrewds papers and media for just the past 2 months as see whats happening . Over 22,000 Indian husbands are committing suicide in India as compared to just 6500 brides. Over 98% of the case filed by Indian wivea are false and filed with malicious intention. WOmens empowerment laws are misused on every count even to harrass women. Women like mother-in-law ans sister-in-laws are nor protesting in thousands apart from the millions of husbands demanding the government to repeal these women empoerment laws . The government spends over Rs 75 Billion on women every year and spends Rs 0 on mens welfare.
In India a cow on the street has more rights than a man . The Government has ministry for animal welfare but no ministry for men’s welfare . Men in India contribute over 82% of the country;s taxes but have no representation of their problems . Indian fathers are no allwed to meet theit children and there is a severe bias in all areas against men . Men are arrested on the basis of false complaint from their wives and then when the complaint is proved false there is no punishment for the false complainant.
Wake up Ron Banerjee looks like it looks you still live in the 1800’s Its men who need the protection now , so let us know what can you do to protect men and work for their rights.
