Writer/director Robert Zemeckis puts his signature motion-capture/ computer-generated touch on Dickens' classic, and darned if it doesn't have the feel of a classic itself. This is probably because he takes a few liberties with the story of a heartless miser shown the error of his ways by three spirits. He adds a fantastical flight through the streets of London. Jim Carrey plays Scrooge and all three ghosts, as if Ebenezer were communing with the elements of his own psyche.
