Celebrity Sizzle by Mark Stone

Chris Brown may want to follow Kanye's lead and lay low for a while. (photo contributed)
After Rihanna had her interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC earlier this month, the same day MTV aired an interview with Chris Brown. Brown appeared slightly remorseful about what he did to Rihanna but never came right out and apologized the way he should have. To this day, we have yet to hear an apology from the guy that proves he “gets it”.
In yet another interview with MTV News yesterday, Brown was asked about dating and his response probably isn’t going to do much to help his cause for reacquiring some of that lost fan base. Ready for this one? “My whole dating thing, I’ve been kinda chillin’,” he says. “I mean, I’m Chris Brown. I’m not saying it like that, but it’s just, like, girls are gonna be around. I love women. But I would say I’ve just been chillin’. I haven’t really been trying to get into a relationship or trying to date anybody. I’ve just kinda been working on me. Like I said, just really getting me straight.”
So what does he mean by that “I’m Chris Brown” comment? Regardless, it comes across as arrogant at best. But if his statement is intended to insinuate, “I got me way too much cash money and girls the girls they love me. They love me so much they’ll even tell themselves that everything was Rihanna’s fault for attacking my fists with her face,” he’s got to go back to the planning stages and come up with some better lines.
Perhaps he’s now able to control himself by not reacting violently before thinking things through, but his mouth has got to slow down as well and let the brain go first. Two simple rules, Chris Brown: Think before punch. Think before speak.
Trouble brewing in Cougar Town?
Cougar Town, starring Courteney Cox-Arquette, is one of this season’s best new shows. Its broad humour provides a nice companion to ABC’s Modern Family that airs right before it on Wednesday night. But are things just peachy over in Cougar Town? A report on Popcrunch recently is stating that Courteney is such a control freak, workers on the show’s set are constantly trying to avoid her!
Grain of salt alert: the story refers to an item in the National Enquirer, so this one could run the gamut from mere exaggeration to complete falsehood. “Courteney is the star of the show and very domineering. She gives off this ‘I’m important and you’re not’ vibe,” a crewmember requesting anonymity said. “Courteney makes a huge number of script changes to make her character look good, and she is extremely picky about everything on the show,” the spy adds.
A craft services employee allegedly felt the wrath of Courteney after her ham and cheese sandwich making skills failed to pass muster: “Courteney ranted at her and said, ‘Everyone knows you are supposed to have equal parts of ham and cheese in a sandwich!’” And a wardrobe worker also claims she was terrorized by the brunette after she had the brazen audacity to offer Courteney just three clothing options for a last minute scene; the star was insistent that she have at least five outfits to choose from: “Courteney got so mad and told her she would be back in 10 minutes, saying, ‘If you don’t have what I requested, you’d better not show up next time. Her code names are ‘Mother Hen’ or ‘Cougar Queen.’ That seems like all we hear all day. ‘Mother Hen’ needs a pick-up or ‘Cougar Queen’ is on her way to makeup. Everyone jokes that it’s Courteney’s way on the highway.”
Is Courteney that much of a control-freak? She doesn’t seem like she’d be that kind of person, but I guess anyone could be a diva in Hollywood. Hopefully someone who works on the show will read this and let me know if it’s true.
Adam Lambert’s management accused of trying to diminish his ‘gayness’
Adam Lambert became famous almost instantly when he demonstrated his dramatic flair for singing earlier this year on American Idol. Although everyone suspected he was gay, he chose to come out only after the show was over. While he is officially “out”, Out the magazine is apparently unhappy with the way his publicists and managers are handling his homosexuality.
In an open letter to Lambert, Out’s editor Aaron Hicklin writes, “I like you, I really do. Although I’d never watched American Idol, I became a fan this year thanks to your unapologetic flamboyance and sexual swagger. It was refreshing to see someone playing by his own rules among so many cookie-cutters… It’s unfortunate, therefore, that your record label and management don’t share the same view. We’re curious whether you know that we made cover offers for you before American Idol was even halfway through its run. Apparently, Out was too gay, even for you. There was the issue of what it would do to your record sales, we were told. Imagine! A gay musician on the cover of a gay magazine. What might the parents think! It’s only because this cover is a group shot that includes a straight woman that your team would allow you to be photographed at all — albeit with the caveat that we must avoid making you look “too gay.” (Is that a medical term? Just curious). Luckily, you seemed unaware that a similar caution was issued to our interviewer.”
Is there a side to agree with in this argument? Is there honestly a standard of measurement that quantifies how gay someone is? Does it really matter? I can totally understand the editor’s point; assuming that Adam Lambert is being forced to become someone he is not. And I’m sure there is some truth to the matter of Lambert’s management wanting to control the extent of his flamboyancy. It’s sad that even when a guy has made the brave choice of coming out, it’s still not enough for some and too much for others.
Neil Patrick Harris joins Twitter
Speaking of celebrities who are “out,” we have news that Neil Patrick Harris has finally joined the Twitterverse and will hopefully be making frequent tweets. Yesterday was a big day for NPH, whose Barney-filled episode of How I Met Your Mother was one of the year’s best (and was also very welcome in a season that has been rather disappointing).
Harris chose yesterday as the day from which to launch himself into the world of Twitter, with his account ActuallyNPH. As of this writing, NPH has already drummed up 53,822 followers in less than 24 hours, and 33,121 in the first seven hours. Good work, Stinson! In a humorous tweet this morning, Harris said, “’Morning. Reading backlog of responses and sipping coffee. How many times should one tweet per day? BTW this character limit hokum is pis” Awesome.
If you missed last night’s Mother, you will want to find a way to see it because it truly was legen… wait for it… dary.
Why was Aaron Carter crying on DWTS?
Wondering why recently ousted dancer Aaron Carter has been caught shedding tears on Dancing With The Stars? According to TMZ, those salty droplets flowing down his face may have nothing to do with his experience on the show.
According to documents filed in Los Angeles yesterday, the former teen heartthrob (TMZ uses the term alleged – nice dig, TMZ) owes a staggering $1,010,635.08 to good old Uncle Sam. If owing over a million in back taxes isn’t enough to make a grown man cry, being kicked off a show too early to rake in a big paycheck sure won’t help.
Like foreign and indie films? This service is for you
A DVD service called Film Movement, which until now was only available to US residents, has now opened up shop in Canada. The service mails to you one award-winning foreign or independent DVD per month and the movie is yours to keep.
If you love your indie films, why not give it a try?
Deleted scene from Bruno
Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno didn’t do all that well at the box office, mostly because it didn’t quite compare to Borat in terms of laughs. Also, it didn’t help that the character of Bruno wasn’t at all likable whereas Borat had a certain charm to him.
Anyway, Bruno is out on DVD today and if you missed it and aren’t easily offended I’d say it’s something you’ve got to see. Apparently the DVD has a bunch of deleted scenes, which makes it worth renting or buying even if you’ve seen the movie. Here is one of those scenes, in which Bruno gets Pete Rose to come in for an interview.
Warning: while there is no questionable language or actual nudity here, you may still find it offensive.
