This morning on Good Morning America, Rihanna sat down with Diane Sawyer for the interview the public has been waiting for since the terrible incident with Chris Brown that went down in February. Rihanna didn’t hold anything back, and was as open and honest about everything as anyone could be. For those of us who really don’t know much about the 21-year-old singer other than what we see in her videos and hear in her music, the interview goes a long way in demonstrating who she is and how she feels.

In a startling revelation, Rihanna admits to getting back together with Brown right after the beating. “It’s completely normal to go back. You start lying to yourself,” she said. “I’ll say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence: ‘Don’t react off of love. Eff love.’ ” Looking back, she says she was ashamed of going back to him so soon after the incident. “That’s embarrassing — that’s the type of person I fell in love with. So far in love, so unconditional, that I went back. That’s not what I want to teach people.”

There’s much more covered in the interview, which you can check out below. You’ve got to admire her honesty; you can tell from watching the video that this is not an act. Rihanna is speaking from the heart and while it may seem more than coincidental that the interview is taking place two weeks before her CD is to be released, she is not doing this as a publicity stunt (although her managers and PR people might be).

Mariah Carey without Photoshop: not flattering

Mariah Carey was filming a music video on the beaches of Los Angeles yesterday and photos from the shoot are circulating the Internet today. Mariah’s BFF, Photoshop, was nowhere to be seen around the shoot so we’re left with pure, untouched Mariah. Without her BFF, the photos aren’t all that flattering.

Three things we know for sure from seeing these pics: Mariah will always love her twins; she must have been the creative director for the video because nobody in their right mind would allow her in that bathing suit; and last but not least – Mariah has no respect for our eyes.

Yikes.

George Jones blames Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood for killing country

Country crooner George Jones is not at all happy with the pop influence that has found its way into country music today, and he isn’t shying away from naming names and pointing the finger. In an interview with the Associated Press, The 78-year-old country legend has some mighty harsh words for some of country’s modern day big acts, like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, who Jones accuses of “stealing our identity.”

“They’re definitely not traditional country music. It’s good to know that we still do traditional country music. Alan Jackson still does it, so does George Strait. We still have it, and there’s quite a few of us that are going to hope that it comes back one of these days,” Jones said, before being interrupted by Kanye West, who finally came to Taylor Swift’s defense. “Imma let you finish, George, but Taylor Swift has done more for country than your old coot ass has done lately. Sorry. Continue on, Mr. Jones.”

Seriously, though, what do you think of these comments? Think Jones has been digesting one too many a sour grape with his meals? Sure, what the music industry defines as country music has changed over the years, but I think it’s all for the better. So what if there’s a pop influence in the music? Doesn’t that help country music shed the stigma of every song being all about “I lost my truck and then my dog…” etc.?

I’ve never been a fan of country but from where I stand, Underwood and Swift should be commended for bringing country music into the mainstream like they have. Agree?

Pattinson and Stewart to promote New Moon separately

Because Twilight fans are just so damn obsessive about the real-life relationship between Edward and Bella, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have decided to go on their own to do any press for New Moon.

“They’ve requested to do press separately for the movie,” an insider tells the New York Daily News. “They really are good friends — and that’s all — but they want to avoid being seen together. Any time they’re photographed in the same place, the rumor mill just starts all over again, and that makes the paparazzi hound them even more. They requested to do things apart so the scrutiny around them will be a little less intense.”

Those Twilighters hoping for a real romance between Stewart and Pattinson will be forever forlorn to hear that the constant pressure from fans has killed any chance of a relationship. “Honestly, it makes it very hard for them to even be friends,” says the insider. “Maybe there could have been something between them, but it seems like all of the pressure surrounding their relationship has really killed it.”

How do you like them apples, hardcore Twilight fans? I don’t know what I have more disdain for – the Twilight movie or its obsessive fans. Really, the first film was at best mediocre. Perhaps the new films will be better, but I just don’t get all the hype. Especially when there is a far superior vampire franchise out there in True Blood. Not a single person I know who has seen both franchises can say that Twilight is better. But because True Blood is on HBO and not enough people can say they’ve seen it, they don’t know better.

How the studios are about to kill off movie theatres

Movie theatres are about to be livid as they decide how to rally against news that the MPAA is undercutting the entire process of theatrical release and distribution. In a filing yesterday with the Federal Communications Commission, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) reinforced the benefits of allowing studios the option of sending movies fresh from the box office to tens of millions of American households.

“Many of us love movies, but we just can’t make it to the theater as often as we’d like.  That is especially true for parents of young children, rural Americans who live far from the multiplex and people with disabilities that keep them close to home,” MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman said.  “Having the added option to enjoy movies in a more timely fashion at home would be a liberating new choice.”

This news may mean that sometime in the near future, many new films will bypass the theatres completely and find other venues to reach consumers. From a business perspective, it’s a pretty crazy move considering theatres are the only distribution channel that cannot be pirated and downloaded. On the other hand, from a consumer standpoint, the theatergoing experience isn’t always all that enjoyable: noisy people, bad sound and lousy projection.
