For the second straight day the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s voilleyball team dropped the Camosun Chargers 3-0 on Vancouver Island Saturday afternoon.

The scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 and setter Caitlin Nyhus did a great job of spreading around the offence as Leigh Dreher, Alex Basso and Amanda Magyar all had nine kills each.

Kaylan Gouldsborough and Lindsay Loseth each added four kills in the middle while Jill Festival came into the second set and swung for five kills, three stuff blocks and a total of seven digs. Nyhus was also strong on defense with ten digs. “It was great to get these two wins on the road in the books,” said HEat head coach Steve Manuel. “We had an extremely tough exhibition schedule so we are a bit beat up, injured and sick right now. It was good to see the team dig down and get it done.”

With their home opener coming up on Nov. 6 against Selkirk College and then a bye the following weekend, the Heat will have the opportunity to regroup and prepare for the rest of the first semester.

Nov. 6 will also be a historic day at UBC Okanagan and will see the raising of the first National Championship banner in the evolution of the Okanagan College, Okanagan University College and UBC Okanagan programs.

Match time against Selkirk College is 6 p.m. The Provincial and National Championship banners, won by the Heat women’s team will be raised to the rafters immediately following the match.
