It’s been eight months since the infamous incident where Chris Brown got violent with girlfriend Rihanna, and the R&B singer is still abstaining from any heartfelt apologies. In an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez yesterday afternoon, Brown sat down with the popular New York radio host for his first big non-Larry King interview. For the record, Brown showed up for yesterday’s interview wearing a bowtie.

During the discussion, Brown criticized Oprah for not coming to his rescue when he needed her. “At the time, when I think I needed a helping hand, for her to reach out to me and talk to Rihanna and say this is wrong and this is right, or whatever the case may be.” So essentially he’s saying that anyone who beats up on his girlfriend automatically gets to play the Oprah card to elicit her sympathy? Nice logic there, Breezy. As for those who did reach out to him, Brown noted Will Smith and P. Diddy.

Perhaps the most troubling of the Brown interview (the first seven minutes can be heard below) however came right at the beginning with his insistence that it isn’t right for us to judge him. “It’s not right to judge somebody when people make mistakes all the time,” he says. “I’ve learned from my mistakes and I regret every second of it.”

Yes, people make mistakes all the time. But isn’t there a difference between an itty-bitty mistake and a big-ass one where you beat the crap out of your girlfriend? It’s all about context and circumstances, and in his case the mistake was more than just a minor lapse in judgment. It’s apparent that this guy just doesn’t get it yet, and until he does, his career isn’t going to recover as quickly as he hopes. I’m not saying it will never recover – because it will – but hopefully one day Brown will truly be apologetic and just change his behaviour and way of thinking.

Lil Wayne pleads guilty to gun possession charge

From Breezy to Weezy. This morning in a New York City courtroom, rapper Lil’ Wayne pled guilty to attempted weapon possession charges. Wayne is expected to spend about one year behind bars.

But wait, there’s more. Wayne’s legal troubles are far from over. According to TMZ, the man responsible for coining the term “bling” still faces felony drug possession and weapons charges in Arizona, after cops found 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy, various drug paraphernalia and a handgun on his tour bus during a traffic stop in Yuma County back in 2008. Weezy pled not guilty to those charges and his trial is set for March of 2010.

To add to his potential problems (which may not fall under the legal category), Wayne is expecting his fourth child anytime now – this one with singer Nivea. The baby will be his third child in about a year for him.

If and when he goes to jail, he’s going to have to be careful of which songs he chooses to sing out loud in the shower. Songs like Lollipop, Make It Rain, We Takin’ Over, and Fireman probably aren’t going to help him too much.

Talk about another guy who doesn’t get it. My extraordinary league of spies tell me that Wayne is not very well liked in the hip-hop community, and many have predicted his doom for quite some time now. Hopefully he can get it together soon because the man is a talented rapper.

Jessica Simpson may have a new man

Before you start feeling sorry for Jessica Simpson for being lonely, it appears that the once-hot singer may be getting down with a hot Hollywood actor. Jess may be getting her needs fulfilled by a guy who has been doing a good job of fulfilling women’s needs lately: Gerard Butler.

The New York Post is reporting that this potential new couple had a date at Soho House Tuesday night, but not without friends (including her hair stylist pal, Ken Paves), as chaperones. “They were at a table with friends, but Jessica and Gerard, who sat next to each other, seemed to only be interested in each other and chatted for hours,” a spy told Page Six. “They were laughing and flirting and eventually left together, along with Ken.”

Several questions arise from this little tidbit of information. One, is Jessica Simpson capable of holding down a coherent conversation for more than ten continuous minutes? And two, given Gerard Butler’s proclivity towards threesomes, did this “evening with friends” end up becoming a real-life version of Britney Spears’ current #1 single? And, what is up with Gerard Butler going through John Mayer’s exes like this?

I’m just having fun with this. In all likelihood, this was just a night about a bunch of friends hanging out and having fun. But in all seriousness ladies, if you’ve been with either Butler or Mayer in the last few years, get thee to a clinic – stat.

Has Amy Winehouse been drug free for a year?

According to her father Mitch Winehouse, daughter Amy has been sober from drugs for a whole year now. However, he states that one of the primary reasons for her successful rehabilitation was because they are wealthy.

“We were very fortunate. We were able to afford the best doctors, clinical psychologists, rehabilitation and hospitals,” the BBC quoted Mitch as saying about Amy’s battle with drugs, which has eclipsed her career in recent years. “We’re making a film about people who can’t afford it and, unfortunately, we found there are very few facilities and very little help available for people like that.”

Forgive my skepticism, but isn’t this a game of “let’s divert the attention away from Amy’s unsuccessful rehab and onto the problem of proper rehab solutions for those less fortunate?” Saying Amy Winehouse is sober is like saying Kanye West is incredibly polite, or, well, like Linsday Lohan is sober. Maybe Amy is off the drugs, but that’s not stopping her from overdoing it with alcohol.

At least something good can come out of this documentary for those who cannot afford treatment. It would be nice to see Amy get back into the studio as well.

Michael Buble is bigger than Twilight

The soundtrack to New Moon was released last week, and although the CD was hotly anticipated, it was beaten out in sales by Canadian singer Michael Buble. Buble’s Crazy Love is #1 on the Billboard chart for the second straight week.

What does this say about Americans’ musical taste? For one, it’s completely unpredictable. Also, Buble was on Oprah a few weeks ago to promote the album, so it’s entirely possible that America’s taste in music isn’t all that different from their taste in literature – dictated by Oprah. Or, one could say that Buble appeals to an older demographic who are still tied to that stodgy tradition of buying albums instead of just stealing them off the Internet.
