Today three Okanagan College business students will be able to add international business competition experience to their resumes.

The trio will arrive in Berlin, Germany to participate in the Students in Free Enterprise World Cup.

Okanagan College business professor Dr. Kyleen Myrah will lead the three presidents from SIFE Okanagan to participate in the international competition after being invited as one of three teams from Canada to attend the prestigious event.

The team which is comprised of Vernon’s Brittany Sjoblom and Kelowna’s Deepak Garcha and Travis Fleming as invited to be a part of the Accelerator Training Program after posting award-winning results at the National SIFE competition this spring.

“Being invited to the SIFE World Cup and working with the top teams in UK and Germany is a testament to the quality of our students and the projects they are running in the community,” said Myrah. “This will be an incredible experience for the team and ensure that SIFE Okanagan continues to be a leader in the country and a key driver in our local region.”

Under normal circumstances only the Canadian national SIFE champion, which was Memorial University in 2009, attends the World Cup on behalf of the country. This year SIFE Okanagan was invited to participate due to their emerging dominance and potential for continued success – SIFE Okanagan is a relatively young team, having been started in 2005.
“In four short years, the SIFE team at Okanagan College has become a source of inspiration for faculty and students throughout the country,” said Amy Harder, President of  Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship.

“The compassion, determination and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by SIFE Okanagan has been unparalleled as they fight to build a better Canada.”

SIFE Okanagan has received support from the John Dobson Foundation, which also bestowed a prestigious award on Myrah this spring for her work with the SIFE. She was awarded the 2009 John Dobson ACE Fellow of the Year award, which recognizes the top faculty advisor of the year, as nominated by the students.
