Goal weight: 115 lbs.

Yay I finally lost some weight again! It’s been some time since I’ve seen the scale drop, especially by a whole pound. Who would have thought it’s thanks to the Canada Food Guide, something I’ve actually known about since grade school. I also think I can attribute the lack of processed and high-sodium foods and lots of water to this weight loss.

Alas, I have to admit something to you. In the last week I did my run on Thursday (60 full minutes!) and then didn’t exercise again until I went on a bike ride on Tuesday morning. And I haven’t exercised since. While motivation has been a big problem this week, my knees have also been bothering me big time. A constant ache and I’m worried about injuring them more, so I haven’t even tried running since. But that’s just an excuse really for not exercising, because there are lots of low-impact activities. Tomorrow I will make my triumphant comeback to the gym. I hope.

Eating, too, has been a problem. Sure the Canada Food Guide has been on my mind and I’m always conscious about how many grains, meats and fruit and veggies I get, but it hasn’t really stopped me from eating poorly in the last couple days. I baked a lovely apple-cinnamon bundt cake. And then I helped myself to it. I wasn’t very good at self-discipline. Again, another goal for the coming week.

Overall though, I have to say it’s way easier to follow the Canada Food Guide then worry about calories. When I’m planning a meal I’ll think about that Canada Food Guide plate my nurse practitioner showed me and ensure I have lots of fruit and some vegetables (I really prefer fruit over vegetables, but I don’t think that will work as fruit is high in fructose), a bit of meat and some grain product.

I’m going to Las Vegas in a week and a half and I’m concerned. Not only is it a mecca to go into debt through gambling and shopping, but it’s also a great place to eat. There is something for everyone, eating styles aside. At the Paris hotel there’s a smooth and creamy creme brulee, there is an amazing buffet at the Flamingo and giant drinks at every stop along the way. The gyms are super expensive to use, too. So I’m just going to have to do super portion control and try to do lots of walking and running if my knee is up to it by then. Actually, last time I really fell off my weight loss effort big time was in January when I went to Vegas. I never recovered and kept gaining.

On Tuesday I’m having my measurements taken. It will be almost eight weeks at that point in time. So that will be the real indicator of how I’m doing on my weight loss journey.

Good Luck in Vegas Holly! Just remember moderation is key. Also stay away from the giant drinks :)
