It was a record breaking game at the Apple Bowl on Saturday night for the Okanagan Sun as they won their fourth game of the year 41-0 over the visiting Chilliwack Huskers.

Quarterback Derek Mann set a new team record throwing for 481 yards on 22 of 35, breaking the old mark of 413 yards set by Al Walls in 1984. Mann also threw three touchdown passes and ran for one in the Sun’s win.

Receiver Matt Scheurwater also set a new team record with 226 reception yards to break the previous record of 218 yards set by Adam Eckert in 2000 against the Victoria Rebels. Scheurwater finished with eight catches and two touchdowns including a 47-yard TD reception.

The Sun also got an 11-yard touchdown run from Tore Tarcon and a six-yard TD reception from Dan Turek.

The Sun added 133 yards on the ground for 614 total yards. They also recorded 25 first downs in the game as they raised the record to 3-1 to create a log jam for second place in the BCFC standings. The Sun will travel to Nanaimo for a rematch of the 2008 Cullen Cup with the 4-0 VI Raiders on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Chilliwack Huskers were shutout for the first time this season coming off their bye week. They recorded just eight first downs in the game and seemed to be frustrated all night long by the Sun defence. Quarterback Adam Hendrickson completed 12 passes for 95 yards.

Each of the Sun victories have come with 40+ points. They beat Vancouver 49-3, Kamloops 49-14 and now Chilliwack. The Sun will return to the Apple Bowl on Sunday Sept. 13 as they host the 3-1 Big Kahuna Rams at 2 p.m.
