A Peachland family will be sleeping somewhere else tonight after their Minto Road house was gutted by fire.
According to firefighters from the Peachland Fire Department, the family was out when the fire started, likely in the attic area of the two-story house.
Kelowna.com’s Gary Moore said about a dozen firefighters responded to the blaze at about 4:45 p.m.
During a tour around the outside of the house by Peachland Fire Chief Grant Topham, Moore said he could see melted window frames and extensive damage to the roof of the structure.
Besides the Peachland Fire Department’s station 21, B.C. Ambulance paramedics and RCMP were also at the scene.
Moore said traffic was diverted past the house on a small pull-out. Drivers were slowing to watch the fire, which gave off heavy smoke.
Fire Chief Topham said no cause of the fire was readily apparent and an investigation will be conducted.
