The hardships continue for the Edmonton Eclipse at the Minto Cup.

The Junior A lacrosse team lost its second consecutive game at the national championship tournament on Sunday in Brampton, Ont., falling to the Coquitlam Adanacs 11-6. The Eclipse, who lost to the host Brampton Excelsiors 14-3 on Saturday, are 0-2 in the round robin.

“(Against Coquitlam) I really thought that we had an opportunity to win,” Eclipse coach Dave Pym said. “It was disappointing and unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be for us.

“There isn’t a lot you can say to elevate their morale and their spirits after a game that we could have easily won.”

The Orangeville Northmen beat Brampton 8-5 Sunday to improve to 2-0. Brampton and Coquitlam are both 1-1.

All four teams are off on Monday and the round robin concludes Tuesday. The top two teams will square off in the Minto Cup final on Wednesday.

Ben McIntosh scored a hat trick for Coquitlam and teammate Trevor Moore stuffed the summary sheet with a goal and six assists. Shane Lopatynski scored three times for Edmonton and Eric Ranson found the back of the net twice.

Pym said mental errors cost his team in the third period where the Eclipse were outscored 4-1.

“It was just a real poor performance on our part,” Pym said. “Executing the fundamentals just wasn’t there. The guys worked real hard in both games and it’s not the skill and it’s not the work ethic. Sometimes, it’s between the ears.”

Matt MacLeod paced the Orangeville attack with two goals and a helper. Adam Jones had a goal and two assists and Cody McMahon had three assists. For Brampton, Scott Tinning had a two goals and an assist.

Pym is optimistic that his club can hang with the tough Northmen.

“As we go through the tournament here, we’re getting better,” he said. “We hope to give Orangeville a good game on Tuesday.”
