While the speed may have trickled away a bit with time, the hands and the eyes for the game were still there at Royal LePage Place Saturday afternoon.

A dozen former NHL players, collectively calling themselves the Hockey Greats, took part in a charity game at Royal LePage Place to help raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, B.C. and Yukon division.

Stars like hall of fame member Bryan Trottier, Bob Bourne, Clark Gillies, Dale Hawerchuk, Steve Shutt and Billy Smith among others, showed they still have the skills after all these years. Cliff Ronning in particular demonstrated his famous skating and puck-handling abilities.

The black and white teams played for a replica Stanley Cup called the VT cup, presented in honour of Bourne’s late father Victor Thomas, who passed away from cancer.

The Legends will also be hosting a four-day hockey fantasy camp Aug 5-9 that will give a lucky few the chance to skate with some of these former NHL’ers.
