The Wenatchee AppleSox came back from a 5-0 deficit with eight runs off seven hits in the sixth inning including a three-run homer from Ronnie Schaeffer to upset the Kelowna Falcons 8-6 in their last regular-season home game at Elks Stadium Thursday evening.
Although it was Kelowna who jumped out to an early lead with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning and an additional run in the bottom of the third, the AppleSox spoiled the party and bettered their record to 2-1 over the Falcons in their three-game series.
The Falcons will certainly be hoping that this is not a premonition of what is to be when the two teams meet in the finals of the East Division WCL playoffs, which start in Kelowna August 11.
Before that game however, the Falcons will finish up league play with a three game series on the road against the Moses Lake Pirates starting Friday night.
The loss to Wenatchee gives the Falcons a 3-9 record against the AppleSox in 2009 and drops their record to 22-23 on the season, while Wenatchee moved to 31-14.
Levi Dean (4-0) was credited with the win for the AppleSox while Colton Farrar (2-3) took the loss.
Game time in Moses Lake Friday is 7:35 p.m. and the first playoff game against the AppleSox is at 7 p.m. at Elks Stadium Aug. 11.
