Falcons press release/edited

The Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League will play their final home stand of the summer beginning on Tuesday night at Elks Stadium, as they host the East leading Wenatchee Applesox for a three game series.

The Falcons (21-21) currently sit in second place in the East with six games remaining in the regular season. The Falcons will host the Sox for three games before wrapping up the season in Moses Lake against the Pirates.

The Falcons hold down the final playoff spot in the East and have a magic number of two to clinch their second consecutive post season berth. Any combination of two wins or two Spokane losses would punch the Falcons ticket. The Riverhawks (18-26) have four remaining games, one in Moses Lake and they’ll host the Applesox for three on the final weekend of the season.

The Applesox have already clinched their second straight Eastern Divisional crown and will await to see who they’ll play. The Applesox eliminated the Falcons in the Eastern Division Final last season.

Heading into their final home stand the Falcons have four straight wins, sweeping the Riverhawks in Spokane over the weekend. With their win on Sunday the Falcons equalled their win total from 2008.

The Falcons are 2-7 versus the Applesox this season, but each game has been very close, four of the Falcons seven losses have been by two runs or less.

Tuesday night is a Toonie Tuesday, as all tickets are just $2.00. Thursday will be Fan Appreciation Night at Elks for the final regular season home game. Gates for the three game series will open at 6:00pm, with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.

The 2009 WCL post season begins on Tuesday August 11, if the Falcons clinch a playoff berth, they would host Game One of the Eastern Division Final that day. Both the East Final and WCL Championship series are a best of three format.
