Any further info on the fire at Fintry?

This is the best site to get any information besides the radio station. All the tv channels suck, mostly CHBC.

It’s Sunday so the key people on Tv need to take the day off to play. Unless there is money to be made they won’t show up. On Monday they’ll get around to it. In an emergency stay informed but don’t bother with TV. They are a business – no concern with the community!!

Yes cudos to you guys at Kelowna.com. I am very impressed with the coverage. I can’t beleive CHBC has had basically no coverage on this fire. They did a much better job in 2003, so I have to assume their hands are tied by E! – so much for local news coverage.

Why aren’t they saying how many homes are gone. It must be more than 3 homes in 27hrs. What’s the secret? Global BC is rather repetitive.

We share your concerns about the lack of information flowing about this fire. We are doing what we can to find out.

Was wondering can a fellow go to the Fintry Provincial park campground is it safe. I have phone the campground itself however they have advised no problem but to drive around and come in through the Vernon route and that they have not been advised to close by the authorities. I have the spot reserved for 3 days and am thinking of canceling as the roads are narrow and it I drive in I may be creating a increased hazard for the fire crews working in the area and a possible danger for my family, if anyone has information I would appreciate it.

First time I have been able to see area that is evacuated and where fire is exactly below highway. New coverage says same thing, does not give specifics. When one has family in affected area it really helps to know details. Thanks Donna

I can see this fire from Winfield. The smoke is billowing out and is really dark. You can see the sun behind the smoke in a terrifying shade of deep red. It reflects upon the lake giving it an eerie red glow. The smoke seems to be making it’s way over to more the Glenmore/Kelowna area. I cannot see any flames from where I am but it does not look good.

We are in West Kelowna Estates and I have used this map for information. THANK YOU! Your info has been invaluable, with the change in TV channels News is horrible and without one voice like Chief Zimmerman it seems that you have to piece the information together. This site/map has protected my sanity. I thank you! EXCELLENT WORK!GREAT COMMUNITY SERVICE!

While you complain about CHBC please try to remember that they had almost a third of their staff laid off recently and they can only do so much now. Things have changed and they are in a tough situation. They only found out yesterday that the tv station was even going to stay open. I sometime wish for more from the news stations in BC but give them a break they are working hard!

I would appreciate any information regarding Killiney Beach area, specifically Udell Road area off of Westside Road. Thanks.

To Sarah: JT just stated that the News coverage was bad. He/She did not say anything about CHBC. This is the problem at times, as people we all have our own agendas(thoughts). One person makes a general comment and another makes it into an attack. The comments made seem to be more in praise of this site and the good work it is doing to keep people informed. That is positive-during these stressful times we all need to look for the positive aspects of everything. It is too easy to be negative.CHBC is not the only employer who has cut employees/services many people are hurting.
