West Kelowna’s Marcel Irnie placed second in the Amateur Sport Bike Class June 28 at the Race City track in Calgary in the third round of the Parts Canada Superbike National Championship Series.

Irnie, riding a Kawasaki ZX-6R, was involved in a battle with Quebec’s Sebastian Tremblay for second place over 14 laps on the 3.2 km. circuit, behind race winner Cody Matechuk of Cochrane, AB. before passing Tremblay on the last corner of the last lap.

Irnie qualified fifth and overcame technical issues with his bike to work his way up to second place and take seventh overall in the points standings in the amateur sport bike class with 42 points.

He is chasing overall leader Matechuk, who is out in front with 155 points after three events. The remaining events of the Parts Canada Superbike series include races in Mosport, ON. July 16-19, Shubenacadie, NS., Aug. 6-9 and Shannonville, ON. September 3-6.
