The Vernon Tigers rode a hat trick from Ryan Landels and a pair of goals and five assists from Robbie Short to an 8-1 victory and a two-game sweep of the Rutland Raiders in the first round of the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League playoffs at Kelowna’s Memorial Arena Thursday night.

Craig Bigsby added a pair and Brennan Plante chipped in a single as the Tigers used their size, speed and ball control to dominate the Raiders for much of the game and end the Raiders playoff hopes for the season. Iain Hart scored the lone marker for the Raiders, with the assist coming from Jordan Urban.

The Tigers took the first game of the best-of-three series 10-8 Tuesday night in Vernon and will now move on to face the South Okanagan Flames in the second round. The Flames finished the TOJLL regular season in second, tied with the Kelowna Warriors on points.

The Flames and the Tigers will play their opening game at Kelowna’s Memorial Arena July 6 due to a lack of an available facility in the South Valley at present. Game time is 7:30.

The regular-season champion Kelowna Warriors received a bye through the first round and will open round two on July 7 at Memorial Arena. Game time is 7:30 but in the meantime they must wait to find out the winner of the other first-round playoff series between the Kamloops Rattlers and the Kamloops Venom.

The Venom lead the series 1-0 and those two teams meet again in game two July 4, with game three scheduled for July 5 if necessary.
